Client
Neurodiversity in Business (NiB) is an employer-led forum that brings together FTSE-level organisations, public bodies, and partners across the UK to improve outcomes for neurodivergent people at work.
NiB coordinates guidance for employers, advocates for neurodivergent talent, and equips colleagues with practical ways to build inclusive teams. The organisation runs events, shares best practice, and influences policy and corporate standards across multiple sectors.
Why this work matters
Only a small minority of autistic adults currently access full-time paid employment, while a significant share leave roles due to unmet workplace needs. Many employers still treat neurodiversity as a side topic rather than part of a core workforce strategy.
NiB uses its platform to push those numbers in a better direction. The website sits at the centre of that work: the recruitment of members, the promotion of events, and the delivery of resources.
The Brief
NiB had grown fast. The legacy website could not keep up. Pages were hard to manage, content changes depended on external help, and the volunteer team struggled to publish time-sensitive updates on events and guidance.
NiB needed a digital hub that matched their influence: accessible to neurodivergent users, transparent for busy HR and leadership teams, and sustainable for a volunteer-led organisation to run day-to-day.
Made By Factory was engaged to design and build a Bricks-powered WordPress platform with a clear content structure, strong accessibility foundations, and simple publishing workflows that NiB could own without a technical team.
What We Delivered
- UX and content architecture: We restructured NiB’s content into clear tracks for employers, neurodivergent professionals, and partners. Key journeys now sit one click from entry: join the network, book workshops, access resources, and explore employer commitments.
- Accessibility-focused interface: The interface uses a restrained, high-contrast palette, generous spacing, and a type system chosen for legibility. Patterns avoid sensory overload and support focus, which helps neurodivergent users and busy corporate readers alike.
- Bricks-powered WordPress build: The site runs on a Bricks-based WordPress build from our supported tier. NiB’s team can create new pages and layouts with structured components, without breaking design or calling a developer for every change.
- Workshops and booking flows: We implemented streamlined booking forms for workshops and consultations, integrated with NiB’s existing tools. The team can spin up new events, publish them, and manage interest without extra admin.
- Governance and handover: We trained the volunteer team on content workflows and page creation to help them maintain momentum between campaigns.
Overall, the initial build empowered the volunteer team to be able to run with the site and create their own web presence without relying on an agency, a cost they would prefer to keep as voluntary.
