Client
Simple Storage runs office, self-storage and workspace facilities from a converted mill in Rochdale, serving local firms along the M62 corridor. They compete with regional and national storage providers while keeping a strong local footprint.
They needed to search to do more than sit in the background. The goal was simple: when someone in Rochdale or Greater Manchester searches for storage, office space or meeting rooms, Simple Storage should appear at the top and win the enquiry.
Brief
The old website had reached the end of its life.
It was slow, cluttered, difficult to maintain and weak in search. The structure made it hard for users to find what they needed and hard for Google to understand the offer. Core terms like “storage in Rochdale” and “offices to let in Rochdale” sat behind competitors. Enquiries through the site stayed low.
Simple Storage asked us to:
-
Replace the website with a modern, manageable build
-
Make it easy for visitors to see space options and get in touch
-
Turn organic search into a reliable source of bookings for storage units and meeting rooms
We recommended a complete rebuild on our mid WordPress tier, using Bricks as the base, combined with a clear SEO and content strategy.
Findings
When we audited the original site, three issues stood out:
-
Weak technical foundation
-
Slow load times and layout issues
-
Broken links, missing titles and sitemap problems
-
Crawl friction that made it harder for Google to index important pages
-
-
Unfocused content
-
A decade of short, time-sensitive posts with little or no traffic
-
Duplicate and overlapping topics around storage and office space
-
No clear mapping between high-intent searches and specific landing pages
-
-
Poor alignment with user intent
-
Service pages did not reflect how people actually search for storage and offices
-
Key questions about security, access, pricing and booking routes were scattered or missing
-
The site was working against the business on all three fronts: tech, content and conversion.
What we did
1. Rebuilt the site on our mid-tier WordPress stack
We rebuilt Simple Storage’s site on our mid-tier WordPress tier, which sits between Elementor builds and fully bespoke Sage/Roots projects:
-
Bricks-based, lean and fast
-
Structured layouts built for local search and conversion
-
Flexible enough for future changes without a complete redevelopment
This gave Simple Storage a clean, modern site that the team can manage, with a structure built around how people actually search for storage and offices.
2. Fixed technical SEO and crawl issues
With the new build in place, we focused on technical hygiene:
-
Cleaned up crawl errors, broken links and sitemap issues
-
Rewrote page titles and meta descriptions so key pages send clear signals
-
Improved internal linking so authority flows towards high-value storage and office pages
This removed friction for search engines and set a strong baseline for the new content strategy.
3. Consolidated content and aligned it with search intent
We then took apart the legacy content and rebuilt it around real user intent:
-
Audited posts and pages against traffic, backlinks and relevance
-
Retired short, duplicate and seasonal posts that delivered no value
-
Merged overlapping topics into stronger, evergreen guides
Core service pages now:
-
Target specific keywords such as “self storage Rochdale”, “business storage”, “office space Rochdale” and “meeting room hire”
-
Answer practical questions people ask before booking
-
Link to supporting articles that deepen trust and authority
This shifted the site from scattered updates to a smaller, focused set of pages designed to rank and convert.
Want your storage or workspace site to book itself out?
We rebuild underperforming sites on our mid-tier WordPress stack and back them with SEO that brings in high-intent local searches. If you run storage, workspace or industrial space and want search to drive occupancy, let’s talk about your rebuild.
Impact
The combined rebuild and SEO work delivered a clear shift in performance:
-
Organic traffic increased by 167%
-
17 new storage and office-related terms moved onto page one
-
More than 40 keywords reached top-three positions, many from a starting point off page one
-
Bounce rate dropped by 98%, showing that visitors were finding what they needed
Most importantly, Simple Storage now reports that storage units and meeting rooms are regularly booked out, driven by organic search rather than constant discounting or heavy paid campaigns.
Search has moved from a weak channel to a dependable engine of high-intent enquiries.
Ongoing SEO and content partnership
After launch, the project moved into an ongoing SEO and content retainer:
-
Monthly keyword-led article production around storage, offices and local business needs
-
Regular optimisation of existing pages to protect and improve rankings
-
Expansion into long-tail and local intent queries across Rochdale and Greater Manchester
Simple Storage now holds more than 40 top-three positions, including several featured snippets that put them above larger competitors in the results. The site continues to attract visitors who arrive ready to enquire or book.
